You have to be careful when buying a budget printer these days because even though the purchase price is low doesn’t always mean that the running costs follow suit. The Epson SX200 is cheap to buy but it’s also relatively inexpensive to run also, a full set of Epson SX200 ink cartridges can be picked up for under £30. But if you really want to save money you can buy compatible Epson ink cartridges for the SX200 which cost half the price of the genuine Epson printer ink cartridges. The SX200 ink cartridges consist of four colours all in individual cartridges, using up one colour doesn’t mean you have to throw away all of the remaining cartridges, just replace the colour that empty and carry on printing. The SX200 has some great features like one touch copying and direct printing from memory cards such as Compact Flash, SD and Memory Stick Pro as well as digital cameras via the PictBridge connection. The scanning function of the SX200 is good, it can scan anything from a basic sketch to high quality photo with accurate detail and colour reproduction. The most impressive function of the SX200 is it printing the quality is excellent and goes beyond what you would expect from a printer in this price bracket. Printing speeds however are less impressive at least compared to what Epson clam the printer is capable of, in the real word it manages only 4ppm in a reasonable quality and this is far cry from the 34ppm claimed on the spec sheet. In general the Epson Stylus SX200 is a solid multifunction device that performs its functions with few little fuss or problems. The noise levels are perhaps a little high, as is the price of the genuine Epson inks but overall a good value for money machine.
